Tobacco Tenants

For many years the Missionaries of Africa have been working to improve the lives and working conditions of Tenant Labourers in Malawi. The Centre for Social Concern (CfSC) has continued this work with the Tobacco Tenants and Allied Workers Union of Malawi (TOTAWUM) and together they are trying to get the Government to enact the draft Tenancy Labour Bill into law.

To build awareness concerning the Bill and the plight of Tobacco Tenants in particular CfSC hosted several events March and April 2009. On 16 and 17 March 2009 there was a workshop from which a press statement was issued. On the 17 April 2009 a press conference was held to present a petition to Govenment and from which there were two documents: one on the presentation of the petition and the second was a press release. There is also an A4poster or hand out entitled 'Price of Tobacco' that can be downloaded in pdf or jpg format for printing.
